Village Chapel UMC takes the safety and security of the children in our care very seriously. The Checkpoint System has many features that help us accomplish this. Checkpoint prints an identification tag for each registered child. The system will assign a randomly generated security code to each child. This code is then printed on their identification tag. The child’s identification tag also contains information that will allow us to contact a parent if a need arises during the service, as well as important allergy information.

In addition to the child’s identification tag, the parent or guardian will also receive an identification tag with the corresponding security code. This assures that no one else may pick up your child. At the conclusion of the service, simply give the identification tag to your child’s caregiver who will match the security code to your child’s security code on their identification tag and dismiss him/her.

First-time visitors, please proceed to the Welcome Desk in the main entry area to register your children in the Checkpoint system. We will ask for the following personal information: family members’ names, children’s names and birthdates, family address, phone number and any special instructions (allergies, special needs) for your child.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Checkpoint: children’s check-in system

Which children will need to be checked in?

All children from birth through fifth grade will need to be checked in, dropped off and picked up by a parent/guardian.

Where can I check my child in?

After your initial visit and registration at the welcome desk, you can check your child in at any of the four Checkpoint stations located throughout the church. Assisted check in takes place at the welcome desk, located in the main entry area and nursery desk just outside of rooms 330/340. During the 9:35 am Sunday school hour, you will find self-service kiosks located in the main entry area adjacent the welcome desk and one in the hall adjacent room 330. During the 10:30 worship, there is a self-service kiosk located in the hall adjacent room 220.

If I have more than one child, will I receive more than one parent identification tag?

No. One identification tag will have all of your children’s security codes on it.

How will I be contacted if my child needs me during a service?

If for some reason your child were to need you during the service, we will contact you by cell phone via text message. So, it is imperative that parents remember to set their cell phones to vibrate and keep them available. If you do not have a cell phone, your identification tag code will appear on the screens during the service. We ask that you exit the sanctuary immediately and proceed to the nursery desk outside rooms 330/340. A staff member will direct you to your child’s room.

How will I know if it is the children’s ministry texting?

The church’s main number—740.983.4675 will display on your caller I.D.

Will I need to check my children out?

Yes, but not electronically. You will need to give your child’s caregiver your identification tag; this checks your child out.

If I have children in more than one room, how will I give more than one caregiver my only identification tag?

The caregiver in each room will tear off the number that correlates to each child and keep that portion. You will then need to take the remainder of the tag with you to pick up your other children.

Can I give my identification tag to a grandparent, older sibling, or someone else to pick up my child?

Yes. But anyone picking up children must be in at least 6th grade.

What if I lose my identification tag?

See the Kid Zone supervisor at the nursery desk just outside of rooms 330/340 for assistance.

What if there is a fire or weather emergency?

If a fire or weather were to occur, please do not come to retrieve your children. Our staff is trained in emergency procedures and will care for your child. Please do not go to the children’s area to retrieve them, as this will hamper the orderly evacuation of children. Once everyone is cared and accounted for, you will be able to reunite with your child.
